About

Kathleen “Kathy” Gestwitz, MHC

I believe that people are created for relationship. Sadly, our own behaviors, or that of another can deeply wound us, leaving us feeling alone, abandoned, and maybe even resentful. The good news is that although many are hurt in relationships, healing can take place by building healthy relationships. My desire and passion is to come alongside my clients, and create a space where healing relationships are cultivated and grown.

Like many women, I have multiple roles, with varying responsibilities. Some of my favorite roles are wife, mother, grandmother, and counselor. I have learned that if I neglect my relationship with God, my other relationships inevitably suffer. Therefore, I work hard to prioritize my time with God, live according to my values, and set healthy boundaries. I would love the opportunity to help you do the same.

I received my BS in Psychology, and my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. It has been my pleasure to serve as a substance use counselor, case manager, and an outpatient community services counselor.

My approach is to meet you with empathy and to create a safe space for you to process emotions/big feels, thoughts, relationships, life change(s), significant events, areas of self-esteem, loss, and/or overwhelming symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and/or panic at a pace that works best for you or your child.

Changes whether expected or unexpected, can be difficult and leave us feeling confused, disappointed, anxious, and overwhelmed. I have experienced much change myself and although it often brings discomfort and fear of the unknown, change is inevitable. Change pulls us out of our comfort zone, and it allows us to learn and grow. If this is something that resonates with you, it would be an honor to support you with changes that have impacted your own life.

The hope of therapy includes supporting you to feel seen and heard in a judgement-free environment; to develop competency to identify and manage emotions, feelings, and thoughts; and to learn and obtain useful skills to cope and problem-solve as you continue your journey. If you notice that you have felt stuck in relationships or in day-to-day life, I would love to support you in gaining insight and understanding in those circumstances so that you can see and begin to experience your path forward. Each person has individual values, strengths, and resiliencies which will support the person to identify areas of desired change and goals and the ability to achieve those goals.

My professional background includes working with children, adults, and families for the past 22 years. This work has included supporting families to communicate better, to create spaces to process significant events and dynamics which may have been overwhelming and/or traumatic, to manage family conflict, and ultimately to bring healing in relationships. Also, I have loved working with adults in individual and/or group sessions to gain knowledge, tools, and practice to support their recovery and to find meaning and purpose in their lives.

I am grateful for my faith in God as God has been my source of strength and ever-present help in time of need. If you are open to incorporating faith-based counseling or if you are desiring to connect/reconnect to your faith, it would be a true joy and honor to do that in our work together.

Choosing to take the next step on your healing journey can seem daunting given the unknowns and stigmatization. I strive to provide my clients a welcoming, safe, and collaborative space to embark on their next path. My approach of individualized care, compassionate listening, curiosity, and allowing your authentic self to enter the space will lead to lasting change and empowerment. My niche is found working with children, teens, and young adults who are experiencing challenges with their relationship with food and body, low self-esteem, school issues, emotional dysregulation, relationship issues, and athletic performance.

My relationship with God and the community that I have surrounded myself with has impacted the direction of my life. We live in a broken world and while I strive to live in a Godly way, sometimes I fall down. However, God is always there by my side. I enjoy being a dog mom and counselor.

I received my BS in Athletic Training from Endicott College and my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Eating Disorders from Plymouth State University. I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings including: eating disorder helpline, eating disorder treatment center, within an integrated care clinic, and private group practice.

Christina “Nina” Sawyer, LICSW

In my years of experience working with people, I’ve discovered that I enjoy inspiring others to move past fears, insecurities and pain to move toward the “full and abundant life.” I’ve been through my fair share of ups, downs, surprises, and frustrations in life. I’ve realized for myself and others that it’s often those gut wrenching moments that bring us our greatest opportunities for insight, transformation and growth. I love helping others find the life they were meant to live, living in balance, and peace, often amidst the storms.

While I’m a busy woman myself, as a wife, mother, and business owner, I strive for balance on a daily basis. I try my best to practice what i preach- focusing on my priorities, saying no when it’s needed, letting go of perfectionism and surrendering to God. Some days i do better than others- but it sure feels good to be moving in the right direction, and I want to help you get there too.

I received my bachelors from Palm Beach Atlantic University. I then attended Focus on the Family Institute in Colorado, studying marriage, and family. Later I received my Masters in Clinical Social Work from Barry University in Miami FL and became licensed. I’ve had the pleasure of helping others at various institutions and settings such as an partial hospitalization program for behavioral health, residential ministry, a residential dual diagnosis treatment program, a home based family program assisting women and families through pregnancy and postpartum period, group and private practice.
